Sustainable Bedding Rebrand & Applications

Output

STUDENT PROJECT (FICTIONAL)

Role

BRAND, UI, & PRINT DESIGNER, STRATEGIST, RESEARCHER

Background

Silk & Snow is dedicated to providing quality sustainable bedding and upholding a transparent relationship with the customer. They do this by manufacturing locally, sourcing material from sustainable providers, and clearly outlining every step of their process.

Objective

I was tasked to create a fictional rebrand for Silk & Snow including a logo and applications. The goal was to make the brand more adaptable and communicate their unique values clearly.

Strategy

From research, I discovered their ecological values are favoured by existing customers and not replicated by many. A competitive audit found an overwhelming amount of wordmark logos. I determined mandates to incorporate a symbol into the redesigned logo with an emphasis on their care for carbon reduction.

Design

The redesign replaces the current wordmark with a symbol logo. A pillow and leaf combine to represent the ecological care for their products. The hugging motion and soft curves show their focus on customer comfort. The hollow shape symbolizes their transparency. Pale colours represent the calmness from using their products.

Applied to stationery and web design, the adaptability of the logo communicates comfort and sustainability through the supporting graphics and colour palette.

The full Silk & Snow web design can be found here.

Challenges

It was tough to figure out the logo’s form. It had to combine the leaf and pillow clearly for the user to understand what makes Silk & Snow unique. The new look developed through lots of ideation and iteration. I learned that incorporating stylization techniques in this process helps to explore a wide web of unique interpretations.
